Wells Fargo Championship will remain in Charlotte through 2019

2010 Quail Hollow Championship

Rory McIlroy won the Wells Fargo Championship by four strokes in 2010, just before his 21st birthday.

The Wells Fargo Championship will remain at Charlotte’s Quail Hollow Club through 2019, the Observer has confirmed.

The PGA Tour will announce the news Tuesday, with the additional news that the tournament will be played at Wilmington’s Eagle Point Golf Club in 2017, the year the PGA Championship is set for Quail Hollow.

Due to instability in the banking industry (Wachovia was once the tournament’s primary sponsor), there was doubt a few years ago that the Wells Fargo tournament would remain in Charlotte after last spring’s event. The tournament has been played at Quail Hollow since 2003.
