Service for Dan Ramirez is set for Wednesday

The funeral for former Mecklenburg County Commissioner Dan Ramirez will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Ballantyne.

Ramirez was the first Latino ever elected to office in Mecklenburg County. He died Sunday after a two-year battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was 67.

On Tuesday, a rosary and visitation will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church, located at 8015 Ballantyne Commons Parkway. Jim Morrill
