Police release name of Charlotte shooting victim

The man who was shot to death outside his girlfriend’s residence in southwest Charlotte Monday was identified by police as 34-year-old Ray Carelock.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say Carelock was shot about 4:30 a.m. when he allegedly was trying to force his way into the residence. Carelock was found dead on the front steps.

Police said the shooting was domestic-related but have not released the name of the person who fired the shots. The district attorney’s office will decide whether charges will be filed in the killing. Observer staff reports
