Federal prosecutors say they are still looking for five fugitives in connection with a drug trafficking ring which authorities said operated from coast to coast in the United States.

The ring had strong ties to Charlotte, federal authorities said, and the alleged Charlotte leader of the operation was sentenced in January to 60 years in prison.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Attorney for Western North Carolina, Anne Tompkins, announced that 36-year-old Milton Earl Adams of Los Angeles was the latest to be sentenced in the case. He will serve more than 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiring to possess with intent to distribute 1,000 or more kilograms of marijuana. He also was convicted on money laundering conspiracy charges.

According to court documents and Tuesday’s sentencing proceedings in a Charlotte federal court, Adams was the California-based supplier of marijuana to the network.

Prosecutors said couriers transported the marijuana on commercial flights, and they said an airport employee helped couriers in getting the packaged drugs through airport security.

The alleged Charlotte leader of the ring, Parker Antron Coleman, was sentenced in January after a conviction on charges of marijuana trafficking, money laundering and firearms offenses.

To date, 47 defendants have been sentenced and 11 are awaiting sentencing.

The U.S. government said it seized more than $1 million in drug proceeds, along with 600 pounds of marijuana and 13 firearms.

Prosecutors identify the fugitives are Gustavo Campos Garcia, Roberto Mendoza, Edgar Milian, Cristian Deylah West and Clyde Monroe Wilburn.
