Gaston truck assault suspect captured

A Gaston County man accused of running over his child’s mother last month was captured Wednesday.

Authorities said Jan Michael Reinhardt, 29, was arrested by Gaston County police at a mobile home in the 100 block of Jeran Lane, in the southwestern part of the county.

According to police, Reinhardt refused to come out of the home initially but surrendered after brief negotiations. Police said they were acting on an anonymous tip.

Gastonia police had been looking for Reinhardt since Feb. 21, when he was accused of pushing a woman out of his truck and then running over her. The incident took place at the Quick Trip store on Long Avenue, across the street from the Gastonia Police Department headquarters.

The woman said Reinhardt is the father of her 5-year-old son. She survived the incident but suffered a broken pelvis and back injuries.

Police said Reinhardt has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injury. He was being held on a $150,000 bond Thursday at the Gaston County Jail, according to the detention center’s inmate log.
