The winner: My scarves were always creased in a drawer, so I used a tie rack to hang them. No creases and now I can see all the scarves at once. For the thicker scarves, I am using a wine glass rack installed on the closet wall.

Don’t try this at home

My neighbor was always complaining about how noticeable his white electric meter box looked against his brick house. So I made a cover. The box is made of 1-inch-thick wood with a hole in the middle for the meter. I set the box in place and marked where the bricks matched up on the box, then cut out brick-sized pieces of 1/8-inch-thick wood, that I painted and glued on to simulate bricks to make it more realistic. It took me quite a while to make it, but my neighbor loves it!

Clever editor’s note: It turns out that as Clever as this is, the folks at Duke Energy ask that you not cover your meters. Among other reasons, they say it could provide a place for stinging insects to build a nest and pose a threat to Duke employees.

Weather stripping protects walls

When hanging a picture, mirror or other object on a wall, try placing 1-inch strips of foam weather stripping at the bottom corners. This will prevent marks on the wall as well as keep the object from moving.
