The Charlotte Observer joined Twitter Sept. 5, 2007, with the news alert, "Storm could threaten Carolinas coast this weekend." Twitter made that easy to find as the company celebrates its 8th birthday.

If you're already logged into, go to discover.twitter.com/first-tweet to find your first tweet. For those of you who haven't joined the Twitterverse, you can plug in anyone's twitter handle to find their first tweet.

The Panthers team account's first tweet (from @Panthers) came on July 31, 2009: "At 100 followers, so now's an apt time for the 1st tweet. Camp Countdown: CB http://is.gd/1WzEs 1 more Countdown Sat.; players report Sun."

Steve Smith, former Panthers wide receiver, has been in the news a lot lately, and his first tweet was Panthers-related: "This will be my official twitter profile for when I decide to use it. Thank you Panthers fans."

Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon didn't launch his current Twitter account, @cannonformayor, until he decided to run in May 2013. His first tweet, appropriately, was "Yes, I am running for Mayor!"

North Carolina governor Pat McCrory first tweeted from his gubernatorial account, @PatMcCroryNC, on May 25, 2010 and wrote, "Frustrated that the Mexican President came into the United States and slammed our already weak immigration laws."

Charlotte celebrity and "Bachelorette" star Emily Maynard has a protected personal account, but used her first tweet with the @EmilyMaynard handle to test the social media giant's structure: "Does this show up on my profile?"

Dale Eanrhardt, Jr., a famously late Twitter joiner just revved up his account this February after winning the Daytona 500. His memorable first tweet was a bow to fans: "Tonight seemed like as good a night as any to join Twitter. How is everyone doin? #2XDaytona500Champ" -- which was quickly followed by a selfie photo with the statue of his father that stands at Daytona International Speedway.
