Dr. Mary Hall named chief academic officer at Carolinas HealthCare System

Dr. Mary Hall has been named chief academic officer for Carolinas HealthCare System, replacing Dr. James McDeavitt, who became chairman of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston on Jan. 1.

Hall has been interim chief academic officer for more than four months and was Deputy Chief Academic Officer since 2011.

As chief academic officer, she is responsible for the hospital system’s academic programs, including undergraduate and graduate medical education, nursing and allied health programs, continuing medical education and advanced clinical practitioner fellowships.

Among her responsibilities will be the growth and evolution of the Charlotte campus of the UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine.

Hall has been with Carolinas HealthCare since July 1, 1987. She is also director of the Charlotte Area Health Education Center and a professor of family medicine at UNC Chapel Hill. She received her medical degree from Cornell University Medical Center and completed residency in family medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina.
