Parent firm of Mecklenburg Times files for bankruptcy

The parent company of The Mecklenburg Times has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, but officials said the action should have little impact on the operation of the Times.

The Dolan Co. of Minneapolis said it and its subsidiaries have agreed to a balance-sheet restructuring via chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. The company owns the Mecklenburg Times and about 20 other media properties.

“While the news of our parent company is concerning, The Mecklenburg Times has provided essential local business information to its readers for 90 years and will continue to do so for at least another 90 years,” publisher Liz Irwin said in a story posted on the paper’s website.
