Police: One dead in Indian Land shooting near Fort Mill

INDIAN LAND Deputies in Lancaster County are investigating the shooting death of a 21-year-old man Saturday morning in the Indian Land community of northern Lancaster County.

Deputies were responding to a disturbance call at a home at 872 Fort Mill Highway, also known as S.C. 160, east of Fort Mill around 2:30 a.m. when the call for service was changed to a shooting, said Maj. Matt Shaw of the sheriff’s office. Police arrived to find David N. Hammer, 21, of Fort Mill, dead in the driveway, Shaw said. Hammer appeared to have been shot once, police said.

All parties involved were located by police and an investigation continues, Shaw said. No charges have yet been filed.

Several people, Hammer included, had apparently been involved in an argument.

Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile said in a statement that he offered condolences to the family of the victim but “It is unfortunate that a incident like this ended in the death of a young person.”
