First Lady takes China question from Charlotte first-graders

First Lady Michelle Obama, who is visiting China with her daughters, answered a question on YouTube from a class of first graders in Charlotte.

The question – What has been your favorite part of the trip? – was posed by students in Lisa Debo’s first-grade class at McAlpine Elementary, in South Charlotte near Pineville-Matthews Road and Rea Road.

“There are so many aspects of this trip that I will remember forever,” she said. “Yesterday we visited the Great Wall, which is a wall that spans what would be the equivalent of the United States from East to West. ... and then we took a toboggan ride to the base. It was like being on a roller coaster.”

Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha, left on March 19 for a trip to China. They asked TIME For Kids readers to send questions about the trip.
