Charlotte Fashion Guild (CFG) founders Erica Arcilesi and Ryan Philemon started the group to form a positive community of the fashion-conscious to advance style in Charlotte and the Carolinas. “We want to give the fashion community a louder presence and change the way the Queen City sees fashion,” says Arcilesi.
In March and September, the group presents its CFG Style Week, a production that shines the spotlight on designers with an emphasis on emerging talent.
Its most recent event at Label at the N.C. Music Factory started with a launch party hosted by radio personality Otis of the O’Show followed by three consecutive nights of fashion shows with different themes ending with an Avant Garde grand finale. The participating designers included Carlos Wayne, High Class Gypsy, Leon Parham, Zyn Fashion, TarragonV, Alicia Patricia, Ritu Selects, Of Mercer, Alli Meraki, One Of’s, Ghelardini Collection, Carlos Pareyes and Flow by Tara Davis.
Proceeds go to the It Gets Better Project, which educates LGBT youth on anti-bullying tactics. Celebrities attending the finale included former Carolina Panther’s player Mike Rucker and one of Charlotte’s most beloved sports personalities, former Charlotte Hornets player Muggsy Bogues.
