Peter Kiever, 18, of Granite Quarry, was arrested Thursday night, according to Rowan County authorities.

A Rowan County teenager was arrested Thursday night and charged in connection with the alleged posting of nude photos of minors, according to police.

The Faith-Granite Quarry police said they arrested Peter Thomas Kiever, 18, of Granite Quarry. Authorities said the charges are connected to nude photos of minors posted on social media sites.

Many of the photos had been posted on Instagram, police said.

Kiever was jailed under $500,000 bond and charged with first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and second-degree recording the photo of a minor engaged in sex, according to the Rowan County Detention Center website.

WBTV is reporting that a minor also was charged in the case.

Kiever is the second Rowan County teen arrested in recent weeks on this type of charge.

The Sheriff’s Office said 17-year-old Juan Bautista, a West Rowan High student, was arrested last month and charged with cyber-bullying.

The State Bureau of Investigation said it is conducting a statewide probe of the posting of nude photos of minors on social media sites. SBI officials said the investigation has spread to at least nine counties.

It is not clear whether the SBI was involved in the investigation that led to Kiever’s arrest.
