A 44-year-old man was killed Sunday morning in a University City neighborhood, but Charlotte-Mecklenburg police had not arrested anyone or established the motive by late in the day.
Police received a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at 9:57 a.m. in the 2400 block of Hemby Woods Drive. When they arrived, they found Ronald Glenn Gullette suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Gullette was pronounced dead on the scene by Medic.
Detectives canvassed the area for more information and said the investigation was in its early stages. As of Sunday afternoon, crime scene tape still remained near where Gullette was found.
Around 4 p.m., Capt. Todd Lontz said that police were interviewing people about the homicide but no one had been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
Resident Charlie Baker, who lives nearby, said he heard an ambulance and fire truck coming through the community on Sunday morning but figured someone had a heart attack or another medical emergency.
“Just to come out and see all of this is overwhelming,” said Baker, who’s lived in the community for 11 years. “It’s pretty shocking.”
Police asked anyone with information about the incident to call 704-432-8477 (TIPS) and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective. Residents can also call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or visit the Crime Stoppers mobile app website at http://charlottecrimestoppers.com/.
