ROCK HILL Three women allegedly witnesses to and possibly targets of a shooting in a Rock Hill neighborhood Tuesday night told police they saw a woman run outside with a machete and instruct her children to go inside their house, turn off the lights and take cover because her boyfriend would be by soon to “handle the problem.”

Then, shots were fired, police say.

Police were sent to Glenn Street, off West Main Street, at about 10:30 p.m. when three women in a nearby house told officers they witnessed a shooting, according to a Rock Hill police report. The women told police a neighbor ran outside with a machete in hand and beckoned her children inside their house. Moments later, a dark-colored Crown Victoria came down the street and the women told officers they heard gunshots go off. One of the women told officers she followed the car until she lost sight of it near Green Street.

Police found the Crown Vic pulling into a Glenn Street house driveway, the report states. A woman approached officers, asking if they were at the house because of a shooting. When officers informed her about what happened, the woman claimed the car belonged to her son and there was no gun. Police searched the car and found two spent bullets inside. The woman nor her son, 19, were able to explain how the bullets got there.

The woman would only tell police that her son was driving the car and if there were any bullets inside, they belonged to him, the report states. The son, 19, told police that he was at River Park when his mother called and asked him to come home because someone was shooting outside. The witnesses, listed on the police report as victims, kept changing their story, police reported, and gave conflicting statements about why they were in the area. Police are still investigating.
