Man accused of raping Stanly youth

A South Carolina man has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a minor that lasted for more than a year, the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office says.

Joey Burns Harkey, 58, of Lexington, S.C., was arrested Monday and extradited to Stanly County. He was jailed under $1 million bond, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators said the youth reported the incidents in late February to the sheriff’s office. The alleged offenses began in late November 2012 and lasted into late February of this year.

Deputies said Harkey was charged with six counts of statutory rape and six counts of indecent liberties with a child.
