Police in two counties are looking for a man in connection with two larceny cases at Walmart stores overnight.
Authorities said a man took money from cash registers at Walmart stores in the University City area of northeast Charlotte late Sunday night, then at a Walmart in eastern Lincoln County early Monday.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said the larceny at the Walmart store in Denver happened shortly before 3 a.m. An employee was walking back to a cash register after a break when she noticed a man crouched down near a rarely used register.
The employee said the man appeared to be looking at the candy rack, but as she got near her register she noticed the cash drawer was propped open.
The man then ran from the store with a money bag, the woman told deputies. Several store employees followed the man and got a description of the suspect and his getaway vehicle.
Investigators said the larceny is similar to the crime a few hours earlier at the Walmart in north Charlotte.
The suspect is described as a black male wearing a ball cap, a black or navy blue sweatshirt and khaki pants. He was driving a black Nissan Altima.
Anyone with information in the cases is asked to contact Lincoln County detectives at 704-732-9050 or the county communications center, 704-735-8202.
