Interim DA named for 5 mountain counties

Gov. Pat McCrory has appointed a former N.C. Supreme Court justice to fill the vacant district attorney’s position in five mountain counties.

Bob Orr, also a former state appeals court judge, will replace Jerry Wilson in the prosecutorial district that covers Avery, Madison, Mitchell, Watauga and Yancey counties. Wilson retired March 31 for health reasons. An election to select a new DA will take place in November.

“Justice Orr’s wealth of experience will be a perfect fit to fill the remainder of this term,” McCrory said. “The people of the 24th Prosecutorial District are fortunate to have a former justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court and a man of Bob Orr’s character to serve them in this capacity.” Observer staff reports
