Voting opens for Mecklenburg’s ‘Top Dog’

Voting has opened to pick the “Top Dog” for the 2014 Bark in the Park Festival, scheduled for April 26 in Huntersville.

Bark in the Park is an annual festival sponsored by Mecklenburg County, with Purina and Harris Teeter serving as corporate sponsors this year. The festival features contests for dogs, vendors, performances by the Ultimate Air Dogs, and more.

The “Top Dog” contest began with nominations from the public in March, and an independent panel of judges narrowed the field to three finalists:

– Eli, a 2-year-old Goldendoodle

– Graycie, an 8-year-old Weimaraner

– Ray, a 4-year-old Jack Russell terrier/bassett hound mix

The public can vote online until April 21 to pick the “Top Dog.” The winner will receive a year’s supply of Purina dog food and will be honored at Bark in the Park.

The festival is from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. April 26 at Historic Rural Hill, 4431 Neck Road, in Huntersville. There is no admission charge.
