Northwest lockdown ends after 90 minutes

Northwest School of the Arts was locked down for about 90 minutes Wednesday because of "reports of an alleged weapon on campus," Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools spokesman Brian Hacker said.

All students and staff are safe and no weapon was found, Hacker said. The school went on lockdown, where everyone goes into classrooms with doors locked and lights out, around 1 p.m. and was released at 2:30 p.m. The group included outsiders there to judge senior exit projects.

Northwest is a magnet school for grades 6-12 on Beatties Ford Road.
