A CMPD crime scene investigator walks outside a north Charlotte home after a woman and a dog were found dead inside Wednesday.

A woman and her dog were found dead Wednesday by firefighters who were responding to a blaze in north Charlotte.

Authorities had not released the woman’s name late Wednesday, pending family notification.

It was unclear how the woman died in the home on Poplar Springs Drive, but fire investigators said they did not initially suspect foul play. The medical examiner is planning an autopsy.

The fire was reported around 12:30 p.m. and firefighters were on the scene less than four minutes later. Cleve R. Wootson Jr.
