An earlier wreck has been cleared from I-485 near Rea Road in southeast Charlotte, but traffic remains slow in that area at 8:55 a.m. Friday.
Overall, traffic conditions are better than usual for this time on a Friday morning. Congestion is causing only minor to moderate slowdowns on the interstates and other major highways.
Freedom Drive cvosure ... Motorists in west Charlotte are reminded that Freedom Drive will be closed Friday in the Paw Creek area.
The road is closed at the railroad crossing between Mount Holly and Old Mount Holly roads. Crews began making repairs to the crossing Thursday, and the work is scheduled to be completed by 5 p.m. today.

East Trade-McDowell closure ... The intersection of East Trade and McDowell streets will be closed Monday morning for nearly six weeks, for construction of rails for the trolley line.
The closure is planned through 6 p.m. May 19, and motorists can expect delays in the area.
I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-30 mph from Brawley School Road (Exit 35) down to Gilead Road (Exit 23).
I-85 southbound, Cabarrus County ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-30 mph from George Liles Parkway (Exit 54) down to Mallard Creek Church Road (Exit 46).
Albemarle Road inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph from Lawyers Road to Sharon Amity Road.
I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Providence Road to I-77.
I-485 outer loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion and construction-related delays.
Independence Boulevard inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from Eastway Drive to uptown.
Johnston Road ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph northbound from the state line to I-485.
Providence Road inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from the Arboretum area to Wendover Road.
I-77 northbound, south Charlotte ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Carowinds Boulevard up to Clanton Road.
U.S. 321, Gaston County ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph in each direction between I-85 and Dallas-Cherryville Highway.
