Concord man, 93, dies after vehicle strikes him

By Joe Marusak

A 93-year-old man who ran a jewelry store in downtown Concord for years was struck by a vehicle Thursday night while crossing Wilshire Avenue in Concord and died later at the hospital.

Joseph Arthur Suther Sr., who lived on Wilshire Avenue Southwest, was crossing the road at 9:15 p.m. when a 2000 Jeep Cherokee struck him, authorities said.

Emergency personnel transported Suther to CMC-NorthEast, where he died.

Police have filed no charges against the 54-year-old man who was driving the Jeep, but they said their investigation is continuing. Joe Marusak
