An Albemarle man has been arrested and charged with forging checks, according to the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities received a report April 4 of several personal checks drawn on a woman’s bank account without authorization.

The victim, R.L. Burleson of Albemarle, identified her son, Jerry D. Burleson, 55, as a suspect, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies investigated and ultimately arrested Jerry Burleson on April 11, charging him with common law forgery, common law uttering and obtaining property by false pretenses, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The forged checks totaled about $400, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Burleson was booked into the Stanly County Detention Center and given a $10,000 secured bond. He has a court date scheduled for April 21.
