Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools

School Time Survey: Parents may share feedback on topics impacting the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools school schedule through April 18 by participating in the School Time Survey available at www.cms.k12.ncv.us. Click on School Time Survey for Parents in the Spotlight section. The survey is available in English and Spanish. Paper copies are also available from school front offices upon request. Individual input is confidential.

Blythe Elementary

Test proctors: Proctors are needed for End of Grade tests on May 23, 28 and 29. Each exam will last from 1.5-2.5 hours. Proctors may volunteer for one, two or three days. Details: Jennifer Hankins at jenniferm.hankins@cms.k12.nc.us or 980-343-5770.

Spring Jam: 6-8 p.m. April 25, gymnasium. The Minecraft-themed dance is only for third-, fourth- and fifth-graders. The evening will include deejay dance music and prizes. Tickets are $10 per child in advance through the school or $12 at the door. Food and a drink are included. Donations of juice pouches are needed. Donations must be sent to school by the morning of April 25.

Cornelius Elementary

RoboCharlotte results: On March 29, Cornelius Elementary’s Robo-Hurricane Crew robotics team defeated 18 other teams to win the 2014 RoboCharlotte robotics championship. Each team designed, built and programmed a LEGO robot to complete a given set of missions. At the competition, each team had two minutes and 30 seconds to solve as many problems and earn as many points as possible working together as a team.

Sixth-grade orientation: An orientation will be held for rising sixth graders and their families at 5:30 p.m. May 1 in the Multipurpose Room across from the cafeteria. The evening will include presentations by the faculty, question-and-answer sessions with students, information about registering for middle school courses and tours of campus.

Francis Bradley Middle

Career Fair speakers: Speakers are needed for the eighth-grade Career Fair 9:15-10:45 a.m. May 2. Representatives from many different careers are needed. National Honor Society: Sophomores and juniors interested in applying for National Honor Society may submit applications through 2:30 p.m. May 1 to Torrie Edwards in room A111. Graduation: Graduation will be held at 7:30 p.m. June 14 at Bojangles Coliseum. A mandatory, students-only rehearsal will be held at 4 p.m. June 3 at Bojangles Coliseum. Those who have family members needing an interpreter for the hearing impaired should contact Shawn Cowley at shawnw.cowley@cms.k12.nc.us as soon as possible. PTSA officers: The Hough High Parent Teacher Student Association seeks officers and committee chairs for the 2014-2015 school year. Positions include president, vice president for membership, vice president for fundraising, treasurer and secretary. A general meeting will be held at 6 p.m. May 19 in the Media Center. Free sports physicals: Online registration for Carolinas Healthcare Systems’ free Heart of a Champion sports physicals for high school athletes will run April 27-May 25 at www.CarolinasHealthCare.org/Heart-of-a-Champion. Physicals will include orthopedic and general health assessments, nutritional consultations and heart screenings that are not typically offered during routine athletic physicals.

Advanced Placement exam fees: Advanced Placement exam fees are due April 18. Cost is $89 per exam. Checks made out to “ELHS” can be brought to the Guidance office.

Graduation activities: Senior Day will be May 16. Senior Awards Night will be at 6:30 p.m. June 10. The East Lincoln High 2014 graduation ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. June 12 in the stadium.
