ROCK HILL A Rock Hill teenager was shot in his left leg Monday after police say an unknown assailant fired at him as he walked down the street.

Police were initially called to the 900 block of Carolina Avenue at about 9:10 p.m. after receiving word of shots fired, according to a Rock Hill police report. When they responded, police were unable to determine the area where the shots were fired.

About 30 minutes later, hospital staff from Piedmont Medical Center informed authorities they admitted a 15-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his left leg.

He said he was walking down Jefferson Avenue when a man and woman in a white or gray car drove up, the report states. The man, who sat in the passenger's seat, shouted out the window, "what are you doing in this neighborhood?"

He then pointed a silver handgun at the teen and fired about three to five shots at him, the report states. The teen was unable to give police a description of the shooter or the female driver.

He told police he ran nearly a mile to Rock Street, where he called his friend and grandmother to pick him up and take him to the hospital. Police found four shell casings in front of two houses on Carolina Avenue.

Authorities say it's unclear if the shooting is gang-related, but they are still investigating. No arrests had been made by Tuesday morning.
