Mailing your returns? No late-evening options

Are you expecting a last-minute run to the post office this evening to mail your federal income tax returns?

If so, you’d better get to the U.S. Postal Service office by the regular 5 p.m. closing time, or you’ll be out of luck.

The Postal Service says its offices will observe regular hours Tuesday, with one exception – the station at 201 North McDowell Street in Charlotte’s uptown will accept tax returns until 7 p.m.

In the past, the Postal Service kept several offices open well into the evening hours. In recent years, however, that practice has been scaled back as more people submit their returns online.
