Today’s traffic: 2 collisions on Independence

Inbound East Independence Boulevard is the trouble spot for Charlotte morning commuters at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Police are working to clear collisions at Westchester Drive and at Briar Creek Road. The crash at Westchester Drive involves injuries. As you might imagine, traffic is slow on inbound Independence.

There also are collisions at several other locations scattered around the area, but for the most part, traffic is flowing better than usual on the major routes.

Here is the 8:20 a.m. update:

North

I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-30 mph from Brawley School Road (Exit 35) down to Gilead Road (Exit 23).

I-85 southbound, Cabarrus County ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-30 mph from George Liles Parkway (Exit 54) down to Mallard Creek Church Road (Exit 46).

East

Albemarle Road inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph from Lawyers Road to Sharon Amity Road.

Eastway Drive at Arnold Drive ... Collision; minor delays.

I-485 inner loop near Rocky Ri ver Road ... Collision; minor delays.

Southeast

I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Providence Road to I-77.

Independence Boulevard inbound ... Congestion and collisions at Briar Creek Road and Westchester Drive; traffic moving 10-20 mph from Idlewild Road to near Briar Creek Road.

Wendover Road at Monroe Road ... Collision; moderate delays.

Johnston Road ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph northbound from the state line to I-485.

Providence Road inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from the Arboretum area to Wendover Road.

South

I-77 northbound, south Charlotte ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Carowinds Boulevard up to Clanton Road.

West

I-85 southbound, Gaston County ... Collision near mile marker 21; moderate delays.

Brookshire Freeway outbound, at Beatties Ford Road ... Collision; minor delays.
