Motorists are reminded that they’ll be dealing with full-fledged school traffic again Monday morning.
Most public schools were on spring break last week, and that caused lighter-than-usual congestion in many places. All of that has changed this morning.
At 8:40 a.m. Monday, congestion is causing slowdowns on most major area roads.
There also are a couple of incidents being cleared.
Here is the 8:40 a.m. update:
West Tyvola Road closure ... A portion of the road will be closed from 7 a.m. Monday until 5 p.m. Friday. The closure is between Old Steele Creek Road and West Boulevard.
Crews will be removing trees as part of the West Tyvola Road Sidewalk Project. Motorists can detour on Old Steele Creek Road and West Boulevard.
Poplin Road closure ... Poplin Road will be closed at 9 a.m. this morning for about seven months at the South Fork Crooked Creek, so crews can build a new bridge.
Blythe Construction Inc. of Charlotte won the bid for the $1.6 million project, with work to be completed by Nov. 15. A detour will take motorists from Poplin Road to Rocky River Road and Unionville-Indian Trail Road back to Poplin.
I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion and a collision on the shoulder near mile marker 25; traffic moving 15-25 mph from Brawley School Road (Exit 35) down to Gilead Road (Exit 23).
I-85 southbound, Cabarrus County ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-30 mph from George Liles Parkway (Exit 54) down to Mallard Creek Church Road (Exit 46).
Mallard Creek Road at Prosperity Church Road ... Traffic signal not working.
Albemarle Road inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph from Lawyers Road to Sharon Amity Road.
Plaza Road Extension, between Plott and Hood roads ... Collision; minor delays.
I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Providence Road to I-77.
Independence Boulevard inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from Eastway Drive to uptown.
Johnston Road ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph northbound from the state line to I-485.
Providence Road inbound ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-25 mph from the Arboretum area to Wendover Road.
Colony Road at Rea Road ... Disabled vehicle; minor delays.
I-77 northbound, south Charlotte ... Congestion; traffic moving 25-35 mph from Carowinds Boulevard up to Clanton Road.
U.S. 321, Gaston County ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph in each direction between I-85 and Dallas-Cherryville Highway.
West 5th and Trade Street ... Collision; moderate delays.
Nations Ford Road at Archdale Road ... Collision; minor delays.
