Piedmont Natural Gas shredding, recycle event Wednesday

Piedmont Natural Gas will observe Earth Day with its annual recycling and shredding event Wednesday in the SouthPark area.

Piedmont Gas is teaming with the City of Charlotte, Goodwill Industries and Iron Mountain for its third annual recycling event, scheduled from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The event will be at Piedmont’s SouthPark offices, 4720 Piedmont Row Drive in Piedmont Town Center.

There will be free shredding, and the public can get rid of old computers and other electronic items, along with difficult-to-dispose-of items such as batteries and light bulbs.

Piedmont Natural Gas says it has collected more than 3,500 pounds of computers, electronics, batteries and light bulbs in the first two years of its recycling event. In addition, more than 5.5 tons of paper items have been shredded.

The company is planning daily events this week, including the planting of trees along flood plains in Mecklenburg County on Thursday, and the planting of additional trees Friday at the entrance of the McMullen Creek Greenway on Pineville-Matthews Road.
