Novant official wins 2014 CPCC alumni award

Paula Vincent, a Novant Health executive who got her start in the health field more than 35 years ago as a Central Piedmont Community College nursing student, has been named this year’s winner of the college’s outstanding alumni award.

Vincent, president of Novant Health Foundation of Community Relations, is the 2014 recipient of the Richard H. Hagemeyer Award, named for the college’s first president. Vincent will be honored at CPCC’s commencement exercises May 15.

“Paula has been, and remains, a positive role model as a graduate of CPCC,” said Michael Moss, CPCC’s vice president for finance and administrative services and the person who nominated Vincent for the award.

Vincent earned an associate degree in nursing from CPCC in 1977. She became a staff nurse at Novant Health and went on to become nursing manager, administrator, vice president of community acute services, vice president and chief nursing officer, and senior vice president of operations.

In her current role, she heads six independent foundations that represent Novant Health in the community.

Vincent also is a board member with Greater Charlotte Healthcare Executives and Second Harvest Food Bank and is a member of several medical professional organizations.

She has remained active with CPCC, helping develop the school’s Occupational Therapy and Pharmacy Technology program and serving as an adviser in other ways. Vincent also is active in medical-related programs at UNC Charlotte, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

“She exemplifies all of the qualities of a Hagemeyer Award recipient – continued personal and educational growth, increased economic status and community involvement,” Moss said.

The late Richard Hagemeyer served as CPCC president for 23 years, leading the college from its early days to become the state’s largest community college.
