Truck hits Charlotte apartment, 1 hurt

One person was injured Tuesday evening when a vehicle struck an apartment building in east Charlotte, according to police reports.

The incident took place about 9:30 p.m. at an apartment building in the 3400 block of Teal Point Drive, off Sharon Amity Road south of Central Avenue.

According to police, the driver of a pick-up truck backed into a stairwell. The driver was taken by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Damage to the building forced four families to be displaced. The American Red Cross said it provided emergency shelter and food for three of the families.
