AVERAGE HOME DOWN PAYMENT SHRINKS: As banks stretch to keep issuing mortgages amid falling refinance demand, the average down payment required has fallen as well, to 15.78 percent from 16.01 percent at the end of 2013, according to Charlotte-based LendingTree. North Carolina is actually a little looser, at 15.07 percent.

JIMMY BUFFET TO CHRISTEN PNC MUSIC PAVILION: Today, the legendary Margaritaville resident will be the first to perform at the Charlotte outdoor music venue, formerly known as the Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre. One Direction, Elton John, Lady Antebellum, CeeLo Green and Luke Bryan will also come to town this year.

WELLS FARGO MAKES DIVERSITY INC. TOP 50 LIST: The bank was cited for its outreach and talent development in diverse communities. It was No. 2 on the list for LGBT diversity and No. 8 for veterans.

CAPITAL ONE TELLING SMALL BUSINESS STORIES IN CHARLOTTE: The major credit card issuer brought its nationwide small business road trip to Charlotte on Wednesday, with two documentary filmmakers setting up shop in the Boulevard at South End.

WELLS FARGO'S ENGEL IS NOW SOLE HEAD OF INVESTMENT BANKING, TRADING: Charlotte-based Rob Engel had been co-head, but New York's Jonathan Weiss got bumped up to lead Wells Fargo Securities in the recent management shuffle.
