A Lincolnton man was sentenced to more than 2 1/2 years in prison for his role in a fight among several people who had been drinking, according to prosecutors.

William Metts, 66, was convicted this week in Catawba County Superior Court of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was sentenced to between 31 and 50 months in prison.

Prosecutors said the incident took place in January 2013 in Conover. They said Metts was charged as a result of a fight that broke out during an argument. The people involved in the fight had been drinking alcohol, prosecutors said.
