Pair arrested in Huntersville hit-and-run

Huntersville police arrested two men after a Dodge Caravan smashed into another vehicle, a stop sign and a Showmars sign in the Sherrill Estates Shopping Center off Statesville Road (U.S. 21) on Friday.

Police said they tried to stop the vehicle at about 1 p.m. because tape covered its license plate, but didn’t pursue it when the vehicle then drove down Northcross Drive.

When another officer spotted the vehicle at Statesville and Stumptown roads, the vehicle sped north on U.S. 21 and into the shopping center. The two occupants – Roger Lee Sparks, 29, and Justin Michael Riddle, 20 – tried to run away but were caught by police.
