Knights hold early 3-run lead

ROCHESTER, N.Y. The Charlotte Knights (9-13) scored three runs in the first inning and reinforced them with three more in the ninth to win their third straight game 9-4 on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Wings (11-10) are a game back of Pawtucket and in third place behind Buffalo in the six-team IL North Division. Charlotte is six games back and in third place in the four-team South Division behind Durham and Gwinnett.

Catcher Josh Phegley went 3-for-5 with 3 runs, a double (his fifth) and an RBI to lead the Knights.

Third baseman Matt Davidson hit his second home run of the season in the fifth inning. He was traded from the Diamondbacks to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for RHP Addison Reed on Dec. 16, 2013.

The Knights face the Red Wings on Sunday at 1:05 p.m., with left-hander Charlie Leesman (0-2, 1.59 ERA) starting for Charlotte and LHP Logan Darnell (0-0, 1.80) taking the mound for Rochester.
