Hopefuls to succeed Clodfelter meet in forum

Four candidates vying to replace former state Sen. Dan Clodfelter will meet Tuesday night for a final forum before one of them is elected in a special party vote Saturday.

Democratic Party officials are hosting the forum for candidates in Senate District 37, which runs from east Charlotte to Pineville and the South Carolina line.

The two-hour forum starts at 6:30 p.m. at The Asian Library, 1339 Baxter St.

On Saturday, 50 party officials who live in the district are scheduled to vote on a replacement for Clodfelter, who was chosen this month as Charlotte’s mayor.

Running are Darrell Bonapart, Jeff Jackson, Billy Maddalon and Amelia Stinson-Wesley.

Clodfelter succeeded Democrat Patrick Cannon, who resigned after his arrest on corruption charges. Jim Morrill
