A construction project near Bank of America Stadium and the protests outside Duke Energy headquarters is making a mess of traffic Thursday on the south side of Charlotte’s uptown.

And motorists in Gastonia are having problems on U.S. 321, where paving is under way Thursday.

In Charlotte’s uptown, a portion of Mint Street is closed, and congestion around the Duke Energy building has clogged traffic on Stonewall Street. Many motorists are trying to use South Tryon and Stonewall streets as a way of getting around the Mint Street closure.

At 9:45 a.m., traffic was barely moving on South Tryon Street, Stonewall Street west of College Street, and Church Street south of Trade Street. Motorists might want to avoid the area Thursday morning if possible.

Mint Street closure ... Mint Street is closed until 6 a.m. Monday between Morehead and Stonewall streets. A large crane has been moved into the middle of the road, so crews can work on the new scoreboard at the stadium.

Village Lake Drive ... Village Lake Drive is closed at Woodscape Drive, and that will prevent motorists from using the road as a cut-through between Monroe Road and Independence Boulevard. That closure is scheduled until 4 p.m. Monday.

Sardis Road North is the alternate route for Village Lake Drive.

U.S. 321, Gaston County ... Paving is under way until 4 p.m. today on U.S. 321 between Gastonia and Dallas, north of I-85. Lanes will be closed at times, and moderate to heavy delays are likely.
