A Hickory man was sentenced to prison this week after being convicted of failing to register as a convicted sex offender, prosecutors say.

Dexter Leon Surratt, 37, was sentenced to between 18 and 31 months. He also was convicted of providing false information to the Sheriff’s Office.

Prosecutors said Surratt failed to notify authorities when he moved in Hickory in November 2012. He had been convicted in Catawba County in June 1994 of indecent liberties with a child and was ordered to register with the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry, authorities said. Steve Lyttle
