LINCOLNTON The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says a traffic stop ended with the arrest of a man on drug charges.

Larry Joe Dycus, 27, of Vale, was charged Wednesday with trafficking in opium, after he was arrested on N.C. 27 West, deputies said.

Investigators said Lt. Tim Johnson of the sheriff’s office was traveling in an unmarked car last Friday on N.C. 27 when he was passed by a white truck traveling at a high rate of speed. Johnson pursued the truck and stopped it near Beam Lumber Road, about 6 miles west of Lincolnton.

After getting Dycus’ approval to search the truck, Johnson said he found a bottle containing 100 Hydrocodone pills. Johnson said Dycus did not have a prescription for the pills, which had a value of about $800.

Dycus was released, but the sheriff’s office said he was charged Wednesday after the investigation.
