Matthews police search for armed robbery suspect

Matthews police are searching for the man they say robbed two cleaning businesses in the past two days.

Police describe the suspect as a bi-racial male, clean shaven, possibly in his forties, approximately 6’1 with a thin build.

The man is believed to be the same suspect who robbed the Angel Cleaners at 702-C Matthews Township Parkway around 5:20 p.m. Thursday, police said. The suspect left the location in a small four-door car that was either blue or black.

Police responded to European Cleaners at 11229 Suite O, E. Independence Blvd. around 4:20 p.m. Friday after receiving reports of a robbery. The suspect was wearing a black baseball cap, black short sleeve dress shirt with red writing on the front, black pants and had a silver handgun in his waistband, police said.

The suspect reportedly spoke both English and Spanish during Friday’s robbery, and was last seen walking east from the cleaner’s parking lot.

Anyone with information about either of these cases should contact the Matthews Police Criminal Investigations Division at 704-847-5555.
