Bisons sweep Knights

BUFFALO, N.Y. Back-to-back RBI singles by Darin Mastroianni and Ryan Goins in the eighth broke a tie and led the Buffalo Bisons to a 5-3 win Sunday against the Charlotte Knights in the finale of the four-game series.

Charlotte reliever Mitchell Boggs (1-2, 9.82 ERA) started the eighth by getting Jared Goedert to fly out, then allowed a single to Brett Carroll and a walk to Jack Murphy. Boggs retired Richard Nanita on a flyout for the second out. Mastroianni drove in the go-ahead run to make it 4-3 and Goins followed with an RBI single.

Buffalo reliever John Stilson (1-0, 6.17 ERA) did not allow a hit in three innings and picked up the win. The win was Buffalo’s fourth straight against the Knights.

Chicago White Sox third baseman Conor Gillaspie started for the Knights (10-19) and went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in the fourth off Buffalo starter Kyle Drabek.

SOUTH ATLANTIC

Kannapolis 3, Hickory 1: Tyler Danish (3-0) gave up one hit and two walks, striking out five while going six innings for host Kannapolis (15-15).
