An Alexander County man has been sentenced to at least 25 years in prison after a conviction this week of having sex with a child.

Dennis Wayne Corley, 49, of Hiddenite, was convicted of two counts of first-degree sex offense with a child. He was sentenced by Judge Nathaniel Poovey to between 25 and 35 years in prison, according to prosecutors in Catawba County, where the case was tried.

Authorities said the crimes took place in June 2011 and June 2012 in Catawba County and said the victim was under the age of 12. Corley was arrested Sept. 9, 2012, following an investigation by authorities in Catawba and Alexander counties.

When released from prison, Corley will be subject to satellite-based monitoring for the rest of his life, according to prosecutors.
