Stallings man charged by S.C. officials

A Union County man has been charged by South Carolina officials with accepting tuition to a school that was not licensed, according to the S.C. Law Enforcement Division.

SLED agents arrested Christopher Lenwood Nelson, 47, of Stallings and charged him Monday with obtaining property by false pretenses, with a value of $2,000 or more.

Authorities allege Nelson operated a bartending school in Greenville, S.C. According to the arrest warrant, the ABC Bartending School was not licensed as an educational institution after Jan. 5, 2007, but authorities claim the school continued accepting tuition until Aug. 27, 2012.

SLED officials said the investigation began after a request from the S.C. Commission of Higher Education.
