5 sentenced for robbing Richmond County post office

Five men were sentenced to prison Monday in a federal court in Greensboro after being convicted of involvement in a post office robbery in Richmond County.

The five were accused of having roles in the June 5, 2013, armed robbery of the U.S. Postal Service station in Marston. That is on U.S. 1, about 12 miles northeast of Rockingham.

Prosecutors said Dennis Shaquille Ross, Brandon Letrell McCain and Takai Terrell Roe each pleaded guilty to interference with commerce by robbery and carrying and using a firearm during a crime of violence. Ross was sentenced to 15 years and 11 months in federal prison. McCain was sentenced to 12 years and 11 months in prison, and Roe to seven years and three months in prison.

Prosecutors said the other defendants, Matthew James Owens and Antonio Chrishawn Jones, were involved in the robbery but didn’t enter the post office.

Owen was sentenced to 10 years in prison and Jones to four years and eight months in prison, prosecutors said. All five defendants also will be on probation after they serve their prison terms.
