ACC baseball: UNC Tar Heels, NC State Wolfpack meet Tuesday

GREENSBORO Pairings and game times have been set for the ACC baseball championship, which will begin Tuesday at NewBridge Bank Park.

Miami (40-15, 24-6) earned the No. 1 overall seed and will head up Pool A. The Hurricanes will be joined by fourth-seeded Duke (32-23, 16-14) and fifth-seeded Clemson (34-22, 15-14). No. 8 Wake Forest (30-25, 15-15) and No. 9 Georgia Tech (32-24, 14-16) will play Tuesday to join the pool.

Florida State (41-14, 21-9) earned the No. 2 seed and will lead Pool B with third-seeded Virginia (43-11, 22-8) and sixth-seeded Maryland (34-19, 15-14). The fourth spot in the pool will go to the winner of Tuesday’s game between seventh-seeded North Carolina (32-23, 15-15) and 10th-seeded N.C. State (32-22, 13-17).

Under the pool-play format, each team will play one game against each of the other three opponents in its pool Wednesday through Saturday. The two teams with the best records within their respective pools will advance to the title game next Sunday, with the winner earning the ACC’s automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.

The Tar Heels and Wolfpack will play at 11 a.m. Tuesday, followed by the Deacons and Yellow Jackets at 3 p.m.

Duke and Clemson will play Wednesday at 11 a.m., followed by Miami and the Georgia Tech-Wake Forest winner at 3 p.m., and Florida State and the North Carolina-N.C. State winner at 7.

Virginia will play Maryland at 11 a.m. Thursday; Duke will face Georgia Tech or Wake Forest at 3 p.m., and Miami will play Clemson at 7 p.m.

Southern

Regular-season champion Western Carolina earned the top seed in the Southern Conference tournament, which will begin Tuesday at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park in Charleston.

All 10 teams will participate in the tournament, with seeds 7-10 playing single-elimination games Tuesday for the right to advance to the double-elimination portion of the bracket, which feeds into a single-elimination championship game at 2 p.m. next Sunday.

Tuesday at noon, eighth-seeded Furman (23-21, 11-15) will play ninth-seeded UNC Greensboro (21-27, 8-16). No. 7 seed Elon (27-25, 12-15) will play No. 10 The Citadel (23-32, 8-18) at 3:30 p.m.

Wednesday, No. 4 seed Georgia Southern (34-20, 15-12) will play No. 5 Appalachian State (20-32, 12-14) at 10 a.m. Western Carolina (37-16, 20-6) will take on the Furman/UNCG winner at 1 p.m.

No. 2 seed Davidson (28-17, 17-8) will play the Elon/Citadel winner at 5 p.m. Third-seeded Samford (32-24, 15-12) and No. 6 seed Wofford (30-26, 12-14) will follow at 8.

Conference USA

Rice (37-17) will be the No. 1 seed at the C-USA championship in Hattiesburg, Miss. The top eight teams will play in two double-elimination brackets.

Sixth seed East Carolina will take on No. 3 seed Southern Miss at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The earlier games will be No. 5 Old Dominion vs. No. 4 Middle Tennessee; No. 8 Florida International vs. Rice and No. 7 Texas-San Antonio vs. No. 2 Alabama-Birmingham.
