ROCK HILL A Rock Hill father who admitted to police that he had been drinking was arrested after his daughter accused him of punching her in the face and then choking her during an argument on Saturday, authorities say.

Police at about 7 p.m. responded to a Scoggins Street home after learning about an assault, according to a Rock Hill report. The victim, 14, told officers that her father, Antwain Patterson, 39, had been yelling at her before he punched her in the face and then wrapped both of his hands around her neck, choking her.

The girl told authorities that Patterson's girlfriend, Marilyn Wylie, had to pull him off her, the report states.

But the girlfriend denies touching the child or getting involved. "I didn't put my hands on either one of them," Wylie told The Herald.

"It wasn't like he was on top of her, holding her down," Wylie said. "He never did that."

Police noted redness on the girl’s neck. She told officers she had been staying with her grandmother because her mother, who is her sole guardian, was away on vacation. The girl, her grandmother and police went to Patterson’s Lucky Court home, where they found Patterson standing in the yard. Patterson’s wife told police she witnessed the assault.

Patterson told police he called his daughter to visit him earlier in the day, but they began arguing shortly after she arrived, the report states. The girl, he told officers, began yelling and cursing at him. He admitted to grabbing by her arm and shirt, but denied choking her or grasping her neck. Patterson also told police he had been drinking.

Police arrested Patterson, charging him with unlawful conduct toward a child.
