Police: Teacher’s assistant hit handicapped student with spoon

A teacher’s assistant in Cleveland County has been arrested after she was accused of hitting a handicapped child with a wooden spoon.

Aleksandra Hoyle, 41, of Cherryville, is charged with assault on a handicapped child, a misdemeanor. She was released from the Cleveland County jail on an unsecured $10,000 bond. It was unclear when she was scheduled to make her first court appearance.

Shelby police didn’t release details of the alleged assault, which the Shelby Star reported happened in March. It occurred at North Shelby School, according to police. Cleve R. Wootson Jr.
