Driver pleads guilty to street-racing wreck

A driver involved in a fatal 2013 street-racing crash in south Charlotte walked out of court a free man after pleading guilty Thursday to two misdemeanors.

Uriel Flores, 19, originally was jailed on a series of felonies related to the Sept. 18 crash that killed Shaquise Sharvelle Bush, 19, and her 3-year-old son Jayden. Three others were seriously injured.

Prosecutors allowed Flores to plead guilty to misdemeanor charges of hit and run, and spontaneous speed competition because they received conflicting witness accounts on whether he caused Bush’s car to crash.

The sentences carried a 75-day jail sentence, but Flores was given credit for time already served behind bars. Michael Gordon
