Newton Police: Man turned gun on himself after shooting into house, hitting juvenile in the hand

Newton Police said a man shot at a house Friday afternoon, hitting an elementary school age boy in the hand before turning the pistol on himself.

Authorities said the suspect, Christoper Sean Davis, 27, of Gastonia was taken to Catawba Valley Medical Center then flown by helicopter to Carolina Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

The juvenile, who had been standing in his bedroom, was treated at Catawba Valley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

According to authorities, the suspect got into an argument with his ex-girlfriend and started shooting at a residence on North Ervin Avenue in Newton.

Calling the incident domestic related, police said it’s unclear if the suspect was intentionally trying to injure someone or fired randomly into the house.
